JAMMU, Feb 24: Governor N N Vohra held a meeting at Civil Secretariat today to be informed about the incident near Sarore, district Samba, which resulted in the death of one person.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, DGP, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, IGP Jammu, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range, Deputy Commissioner and SSP, Samba.
The Governor was informed by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, that an enquiry, to be completed within 15 days, has already been ordered in regard to the incident of firing which had resulted in the death of a civilian and the subsequent law & order disturbance, by Rehana Batool, Additional Commissioner in his office.
Governor gave detailed instructions to the Chief Secretary regarding the preparation of a draft plan to re-locate and re-habilitate nomadic tribes who move from place to place. He shall be taking a separate meeting in this regard.
The Governor, who had separately asked the DGP to send an urgent report in regard to this incident, stressed the need for a detailed operating procedure being evolved for ensuring effective maintenance of law & order while dealing with situation of such nature. The Governor advised the Chief Secretary and DGP to urgently direct the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to ensure all necessary precautions while taking the required action for removal of encroachments and, side by side, ensuring the maintenance of public order.
Chief Secretary informed Governor that a meeting of all Deputy Commissioners and SPs of Jammu Division was scheduled for next week in which the Governor’s directions would be duly discussed. The Governor directed that Deputy Commissioners/S.Ps while dealing with various issues connected to encroachments along the National Highways must ensure that district roads and the National Highway are not blocked by any agitating group under any circumstances. The normal flow of traffic must not be disrupted and no inconvenience caused to those who travel on the roads.
