Get viral video of minor child removed from social media: CWC to Cyber Police

RAMBAN, July 7: Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ramban has written to the Cyber Police Station Ramban to initiate legal action against the concerned persons involved in publishing, recording interview or broadcasting material of the minor child, as the same is in contravention to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of the children) Act 2015.

The CWC has demanded removal and blocking of the viral video from the social media accounts, URLs and digital platforms hosting or circulating the videos featuring minor children.

It is pertinent to mention here that it came to the knowledge of CWC on July 4, 2026 that a 7th class student studying in Government Middle School Krawa, Banihal was accidentally locked inside his School after he fell asleep in his classroom on last working day before the start of 15-day summer vacation and was rescued by the local passerby.

The incident was recorded on camera and video of the incident showing interview of the child in the school premises got viral without safeguarding the dignity, privacy rights of the child in violation of the provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and protection for the children) Act 2015.

In a letter to Cyber Police Ramban, CWC stated that the continued circulation of such videos have the potential to expose the children to public scrutiny, online harassment, misuse of the identity and other forms of harm which is contrary to the principles of child protection enshrined in the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of the Children) Act, 2015 and the guidelines issued by the National Commission for Protection of the Child Rights on media reporting involving children.

The CWC has directed Cyber Police to take expeditious steps in accordance with law, for the removal or blocking of the videos of the incident through the concerned intermediaries and online platforms to safeguard the privacy, dignity and welfare of the child.

It prohibited media persons, journalists, digital content creators, vloggers and members of the public from interviewing, filming and dissemination of videos involving children in way that may compromise their privacy, dignity, safety or overall well-being.
