JAMMU, Aug 28: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the semifinals, Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur and Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu have qualified for the finals in the men’s section, while in the women’s section, SPMR College of Commerce and Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur defeated their rivals to make it to the finals of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Table Tennis Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, here.
Earlier, in the men’s first semifinal, GDC Udhampur outplayed MBS College in a tough fight by (3-2). Ankit Sharma beat Gurleen Singh by 11-3, 11-4, 11-4, Rohit Pal Singh lost to Jayesh Singh by 2-11, 2-11, 5-11, Akashdeep got better of Gurkeerat Singh by 8-11, 11-3, 13-11, 13-11, Ankit lost to Jayesh Singh by 5-11, 6-11, 5-11 and Rohit Pal Singh prevailed over Gurleen Singh by 11-7, 11-5, 11-6, while in the second semifinal, GMC beat ASCOMS by (3-0). Tanveer Banday prevailed over Tapan Sharma by 11-4, 11-2, 11-9, Pranav Mahajan beat Amit Anand by 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-4 and Nasir Ali trounced Shubham by 11-6, 11-9, 11-4.
In first semifinal of women’s section, GCW Udhampur beat GCW Parade by (3-1). Purvi Sharma drubbed Zahea Henaz by 11-5, 11-9, 11-8, Parul Sharma lost to Sonalika Sharma by 11-5, 7-11, Pinki Rathore beat Sonali Pandita by 9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8 and Purvi Sharma beat Sonalika Sharma by 12-10, 11-8, 11-8, while in the second semifinal, SPMR College of Commerce beat GCW Gandhi Nagar by (3-0). Pariva beat Urvashi by 11-3, 11-8, 11-4, Arya outplayed Shari by 11-7, 11-3, 11-2 and Simran trounced Ojasvi Sharma by 11-6, 11-5, 11-2.
The matches were officiated by Ravish Vaid, Gourav Sharma, Amit Sharma, Sandeep Khadotra and Rekha Ratra.
The tournament is being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, under the supervision of its Director, Prof Dhian S Bhau.
