GCW Gandhi Nagar celebrates Women’s Day

JAMMU, Feb 5: Women Studies Centre of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar celebrated Women’s Day.
On the occasion, Prof Savita Bakshi, Special Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was the chief guest, whereas Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college presided over the function.
The function started with the lighting of lamp followed by Sarswati Vandana.
Dr Anjali Bhat, Director Women Studies Centre presented the welcome address and briefed the new initiatives taken by WSC to improve the status of girl students and the grooming of their positive self  in  being born as female.
Dr Ashu Vashist read the detailed report of the new project undertaken by WSC and the different landmark achieved by it right from its inception to the present.
A fusion of culture items including nukkad natak, dance, poetry recitation and songs were performed all focusing on the women issues and problems faced by the women in the patriarchal society.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College in her address underlined the need of awareness of women’s constitutional safeguard for their better growth.
Prof Savita Bakshi stressed upon the need of sensitizing the gender for the wholesome fruition especially of the girl child.
Students were given mementoes and certificates of merit for their active involvement in the activities undertaken by WSC in the college.
The programme was conducted by Shran and Shriya of BSc Part-III, whereas in the end vote of thanks was presented by Dr Neelima Gupta.
