UDHAMPUR, Nov 16: Gaddi Sippi tribes are living a miserable and pitiable life and are being treated as refugees in their own country as State Government has deprived them of their reservation under ST category.
This was assessed by president, Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association (GSTWA), district Udhampur unit, Shanker Chand after conducting a series of meetings with the community members during his extensive tour of Gaddi Sippi inhabitation of Block Panchari viz Kothi Lehar, Lattyar and Katti. He was accompanied by a team of district unit of GSTWA.
He further alleged that Government has deprived students of these tribes from their right of pre-matric scholarship under ST category since 2007 and from their reservation under STs category in all professional colleges of the State.
Contending that Gaddi Sippi tribes and other backward sections of the society are untouched by the development schemes, Chand exhorted on the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to formulate a special package for socio economic upliftment of the downtrodden Gaddi Sippi tribes.
