Former MLA urges Govt to provide compensation to landslide hit families

JAMMU, Mar 31: Former MLA and senior Congress leader, Ashok Kumar expressed serious concern over the uncontrolled rise in man-made disasters especially along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and urged upon the J&K Government to provide immediate compensation and rehabilitation to the landslide hit families of Dalwas (Ramban district) in J&K.
In a statement issued here, Kumar applauded the role of local volunteers and administration who saved dozens of lives at Dalwas where more than 35 houses collapsed and damaged due to continuous precipitation a few days back.
He said people need sustainable development, however, the unscientific manner with which the tress and mountains have been cut on the slopes of the National Highway is highly vulnerable in its entire mountain ecosystem stretches from Nashri to Banihal, resulting in damaging of 40 houses of the people of Dalwas (Ramban) near Nashri tunnel.
Ashok sought urgent help, compensation and rehabilitation from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of free ration, accommodation, medicines and other essential services for the beleaguered families, that have got uprooted due to continuous rains.
The senior congress leader of Chenab Valley also remarked the stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway slopes from Nashri to Banihal that has got badly damaged due to incessant rains leading to frequent suspension of traffic for the last few months need also to be repaired on war footing.
