Focus on available resources must for viability of schemes: DDC

DODA, July 2: “The focus on availability of resources in the area during formulation of development projects is an essential component for achieving desired and required results”.
This was stated by the District Development Commissioner, Doda, Mubarak Singh, while reviewing the performance and prospective plans of Agriculture and other allied departments in a meeting of concerned officers here today.
The DDC enjoined upon the officers to create awareness among the masses about the welfare schemes and flagship programmes initiated by the State and Central Government for development of agro-based activities in the district to help socio-economic empowerment of farming community.
He directed the officers to organize exposure visits of farmers to other parts of the state and country besides collective awareness camps by all the allied departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries  etc for progressive and prospective farmers so that latest techniques and machinery could be utilised by farmers to enhance their production.
The DDC said that cultivation of hybrid and disease resistant varieties of fruit plants, vegetables and crops can immensely help the rural farming community. He said all the available resources like water source needs to fully utilised for the development of agriculture and allied activities in the district as various parts of the district are endowed with natural water resources like streams and nallahs.
He also directed the officers to encourage farmers adopt mixed cropping / combined cultivation technique under which both fruit plants and crops/vegetables could be cultivated which will provide them an additional source of income and helps in the economic development also.
The DDC said that there is need to create sufficient marketing facilities for the agricultural based produces. He said that due to dual climatic conditions in places like Bhadarwah  and sub tropical areas like Doda, the need is to fully explore dual cultivation of crops, vegetables and fruit bearing plants in such areas.
Earlier, the DDC presided over a training programme of prospective Hajis organized by the Haj Committee, Kashmir through master trainers from Kashmir.  The training was imparted to the prospective Hajies for hassle free and smooth conduct of Haj to the Holy Shrine in Mecca Madina.
