BSF in Jammu and Kashmir

BSF has played one of the most important role in Jammu and Kashmir, guarding the porous, mountainous, atrocious stretch with weather constrains throughout the year. In addition to this fighting terrorism along with Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and Army to safe guard people at any costs. List of Mahavir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Shauraya Chakra and many more awarded to CRPF men are testimony to valor and sacrifices of BSF. In present hi-tech warfare it’s not a cake walk anymore for any security agency and BSF is no exception. Earlier it was herculean task of safeguarding 7000 kms border area which has been taken care by border fencing and latest gadgets like laser/thermal sensors to check infiltration or arms/narcotics smuggling, but now drones are the latest ammunition and narcotics carriers. Though BSF has devised numerous strategies to counter drone threat effectively which are showing positive results yet this threat is far more serious than in the past as is evident by drone attack on Jammu Airport in the past and another attempt to trespass Jammu airport again last month only. Having BSF STC for training new recruits in Jammu and Kashmir is really moment of honour for J&K. BSF is involved in various social activities also like blood donation camps, sanitation or plantation drives and reach out border communities through civic action programmes from time to time. From 2009 BSF has deployed women also on combat tasks and deployment duties on India-Pakistan border. A visit to line zero depicts the real difference between Pakistan and India, on Indian side lush green fields with canals, tube wells and men/women working, living a comfortable life but on the other side are shrubs only, shows the actual difference between a failed state and other one Vishwa Guru. Jammu and Kashmir owes it to BSF, beyond words of thanks
