Flower growers delegation calls on Horticulture Secy

JAMMU, July 23: Flower Growers delegation today met  M H Mailik  Commissioner Secretary Horticulture and Floriculture  under the leadership of S.Tajinder Singh Wazir president Flower Growers Association   to discuss various difficulties and problem faced by flower growers in  the State.
The delegation apprised present grim scenario of commercial floriculture particularly in Jammu Division where flower growers are facing difficulty with respect to inputs, technology interventions, extension, value addition, marketing infrastructure and lack of funds under centrally sponsored schemes.
The  delegation requested Mailik to streamline and make Department of Floriculture as a result oriented organization commercial floriculture proved most lucrative and high profit enterprise in past where Jammu and Kashmir  flowers were exported to other States.
Ruing Government apathy towards commercial floriculture, the delegation said half financial year is complete without no awareness training and marketing orientation program for flower growers.
The members stated that despite Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s keen interest in the development of commercial floriculture a source of lively hood the ground situation is very pathetic as the assets created for grooming this sector including cold room, refer vans, green houses and nurseries under plan budget are proving worthless and unproductive.
The disarray and unaccountability among the dispensation has ruined the growing sprits of flower growers, time and again change in formalities for availing benefits depress the growers of Jammu district where no full time even assistant floriculture is available to guide farmers.
Commissioner Secretary assured all genuine demands will be fulfilled and mega awareness and grievance camp organised in future.
