NEW DELHI, Sep 11:
In a swift initiative, the Centre has decided to grant Rs 100 crore special package for rebuilding tourism infrastructure in the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
“J&K has recently witnessed an unprecedented natural calamity that has caused massive damage to the life as well as property/infrastructure. Hence, the Tourism Development Ministry, as an exceptional case, decided to provide a special package for the restoration and reconstruction of the affected Government tourist facilities,” Union Tourism Minister Shripad Naik announced here today.
Over and above the already prioritised projects for Central Financial Assistance(CFA) of about Rs 127 crore, in the current fiscal for developing tourism infrastructure, the Ministry of Tourism Development would extend a Special Financial Package of Rs 100 crore to the State for rebuilding the recently damaged Government tourist infrastructure.
The State Government will be advised to assess the destroyed and damaged tourist amenities and conveniences and revert back with the requirement of funds for rebuilding the same, Mr Naik said.
On examination of the demand, the Ministry would sanction the funds, he said adding that funds so sanctioned in the relief package would be utilised for restoration and reconstruction of infrastructure across the State with a special focus on tourist facilities in the valley, the Minister added.
