Srinagar, Oct 1: Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) today registered a case against Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) MLC, Ajat Shatru Singh, for violating the State High Court order on constructions in the periphery of Dal lake.
The FIR (No 95 of 2016 U/S 188) was registered against the BJP leader after Court castigated LAWDA for not taking action against him for raising the illegal constructions in green belt at Karan Mahal on Boulevard in Srinagar on the banks of Dal lake.
The court had asked the LAWDA why they didn’t take action against the BJP leader for violating the court orders. The court had said that law is not for poor people only and even if he is son of a former Maharaja law is for him as well.
Singh’s property at Gupkar Road was sealed under court directions last month and sealed portion was given under the Superdari of Deputy Commi-ssioner Srinagar through Naib Tehsildar Buchwara.
LAWDA had informed the court that Singh continued illegal constructions even after he was asked to stop it. It was, however, stopped after court issued directions of sealing.
BJP leader’s Counsel early this week told the Court that Singh will not raise any construction in violation of court orders and the laws occupying the field and will also tender unqualified apology and court had granted him two weeks time.
In the meantime, Lakes and Waterways Development Autho-rity (LAWDA) through its Enforcement Wing today demolished 11 illegal structures constructed at Laam, Karpora Cheshma Shahi, Northern Foreshore Road, Gupt Ganga and Lashkar Mohalla of Srinagar.
The demolitions were part of ongoing drive of the LAWDA to remove illegally raised structures in their jurisdictions.  “Enforcement Officer LAWDA Srinagar said the drive to remove illegal structures and constructions in their jurisdiction will continue and elements creating hurdles in the process will be dealt under law”, said an official statement.
“People residing within the LAWDA jurisdiction are directed not to go for any sort of illegal constructions. He also said that Tipper/Load carrier owners should not carry construction material in the prohibited area of Dal/Nigeen Lake without permission”, statement said.
