LOS ANGELES, Aug 4: “Fences” actor Russell Hornsby has been cast as lead in Angela Thomas’ debut novel adaptation “The Hate U Give”.
The book follows a 16-year-old girl named Starr who grew up in a slum, but now attends a suburban prep school. After she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she’s torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.
Hornsby will play Starr’s father, while rising star Lamar Johnson will play Seven, Starr’s older brother in the George Tillman Jr-directed film. (PTI)
