JAMMU, Aug 18: A deputation of above 100 villagers belonging to border villages namely Rangoor camp, Kamore, Chak Parth, Barota, Nanga and Nathwal camp of Ramgarh area of Vijaypur today met Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal and apprised him of their grievances due to flood water of river Basantar.
The deputation was led by Dr Ghansham Singh Charak, State president, All India Kissan Sabha.
The deputation told the Divisional Commissioner that the people of the said villages were DPs of 1971 and were settled in the said villages adjoining the kacha Band of river Basantar but due to slackness of administration and excess de-silting of sand by the sand mafia, kacha bank of river washed away for the second time due to which thousand kanals of agriculture land of the villagers was just ruined.
They urged the Divisional Commissioner to extend help to them in removing sand from their fields and also sought financial help in restoration of irrigation facilities.
