SAMBA, May 29: Hundreds of factory workers, under the aegis of State Centre Labour Union staged dharna in the office of Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) to protest against the alleged violation of labour laws in Bharat Box Factory (BBF).
The factory workers gathered at Industrial area of Samba and took out a procession to the ALC’s office located in the District Administrative Complex (DAC) Samba. Addressing the protesters, Centre State Labour Union leader Romit Kumar here today urged the Government to issue directives to the management of BBF Industries to pay the pending wages of workers at the earliest as their families are at the verge of starvation.
Workers alleged that factory management has suspended work from last two months and workers are being forced to leave the factory. They alleged that even salary of four months has not given to them and the labor department had failed to take strict action against the erring factory owners.
“Government has established the industries in Samba sector with the sole purpose of boosting economy of the people and providing employment to the youth but the same has been broken after the industrialists close their units by taking the benefit of subsidy,” said Veena Devi, factory worker.
We demand that in case the BBF Industries has to be closed, the workers be given life claim as given in case of Hindustan Liver Ltd and Bhilwara Group of Industries at Bari Brahmana,” said Sukhdev Singh, another worker.
The Labour Department had failed to ensure justice to the workers in Bharat Box Factory and corruption was rampant in the Labour Department, he added.
During interaction with the factory workers, ALC assured that their issues will be redressed in one month.
