KATHUA, Dec 2: The active team of Excise and Taxation Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur, during routine checking near Pattan Berian, Kathua, seized 12 vehicles including Dumper and Tipper from Riverine belt of river Ravi evading the Toll Post. The vehicles belong to stone crushers operating in Ravi river Kerrian Gandyal area, Pattan Berian, Ujh river evading the Toll Tax and clearly violating the order and direction of High Court.
A Toll of Rs 2,87,660 on illegal export of sand and Bajri was recovered from these vehicles.
The whole operation was supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Ashish Kumar Gupta and carried out by Excise & Taxation Officers, Sandeep Gupta, Sajad Sofi and Varinder Gupta, Inspectors, Khalid Manhas, Sanjeev Khajuria, Mansoor Ahmad, Amit Sharma, Shadi Lal, Pankaj Sharma, Ravinder Singh and Mohd. Saleem.
Deputy Excise Commiss-ioner, Lakhanpur, Ashish Gupta said that as per High Court of J&K Judgment in cases titled M/s Magnum Stone Crusher and another A/W Connected Matter v/s State and others pronounced on 02-02-2018, M/s C&C Construction Limited and others v/s State of J&K, pronounced on 19-02-2018 and M/s Sant Enterprises v/s State, pronounced on 14-03-2018, all the stone crushers units operating in Kerian Gandyal and Nagri and nearby area of Kathua district were asked to route their material through Toll Posts established at Gandyal village and Nagri and pay Toll Tax in accordance with rule 3(2) of J&K Levy of Toll Act, 1995.
He said they were asked to follow the directions and meeting stone crusher owner made in past in this regard and pay Toll Tax of Rs 100 per quantile. But most of the stone crusher violate the advice and start illegal movement posing loss to the State exchequer. He said our team is strictly implementing the directions of High Court and takes ground action against the law violators.
Talat Parvez Rohella, Excise Commissioner, J&K, while appreciating the team of Toll Post Lakhanpur for its sustained efforts to tackle the Toll evaders enjoined them to carry on their special drive to thwart their nefarious designs.
