Excise Deptt kick starts distribution of 50,000 masks

JAMMU, Mar 31: In order to fight against the COVID 19 pandemic, Excise Department procured 50,000 masks under the Civic Action Plan and started the distribution of the same amongst the slum dwellers, orphanages and the poor section from the far flung area.
The concerned ETO’s have been directed to distribute the same in the areas of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and Jammu with the help of NGO’s and the volunteers.
As per the Excise Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan, the Department has also dispatched a consignment of 20,000 masks to the Kashmir valley and has asked the concerned officers/officials of Excise Department to distribute among the needy people.
The Global Peace Organization, a NGO under the chairmanship of Advocate Sheikh Altaf Hussain and Gohar Hafeez Fani has taken personal initiative to deploy the volunteers to help the department in the distribution with active association of the local administration.
Today the areas where the masks were distributed were Old Age Home Ambphalla, Bal Niketan Ambphalla, Braille School Janipur, Migrants at Super Speciality Hospital, Janipur, Muthi Morh, Kot Bhalwal, Ranjan, Seri, Amb, Gharota, Aghore, Thati, Lower Jandyal, areas of Transport Nagar, Narwal, Bahu Fort and SOS School Channi in Jammu.
The masks were also handed over to Bishnah team for the distribution of the same through SHO Bishnah and SDPO RS pura. The masks were also distributed to some security personnel on duty.
In Rajouri and Poonch, masks were distributed among front line organization fighting COVID-19 like Police, PHE, PDD, hospital and sanitation staff and pedestrian walking without masks. In this regard volunteer of Global Peace Organization including district president Iftkhar Bazami and Imtiaz Salaria Councillor of concerned ward and President of Youth Association for Service of Humanity and Nation (NGO) took part.
Excise Commissioner stressed that the same exercise will be followed by the Excise Officials and NGOs with the help of local administration in both the divisions of JK UT and the department will procure additional consignment of masks and sanitizers to help the Government in its fight against Covid-19. He further said that the Department will launch civic action for arranging essentials to the orphans, destitute and the labour in distress.
It is learnt that the department has planned to target a population of minimum 1 lakh population for this kind of help in the current crisis.
