JAMMU, May 28: Excise Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shavan visited Lakhanpur and reviewed field working.
He also inspected the assets of department for rational utilization and renting out unutilized buildings.
While reviewing the work, the Excise Commissioner emphasized upon the staff to save the essential record and segregate the non essential items so that they are disposed off under rules.
He also advised the NHAI to get the estimates prepared and propose a canteen and toilet complex at the venue.
After the abolition of toll plaza, the assets of Excise Department are lying unutilized. The Finance Department in order to get productive use of such assets has already directed the Excise Commissioner to rent out some portion of plaza/check post to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for setting road toll.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Regional Director NHAI, ETOs and other Excise Department officials.
It was decided in the meeting that Excise officials will retain only two lanes for random check of vehicles to counter narcotics business and stop illegal transport of liquor into territory.
