SRINAGAR, Oct 6: A Special Police Officer (SPO) and his 11-year-old son were injured in a militant attack in Handwara while a former militant was shot dead in Tral area of South Kashmir today.
Militants opened fire upon SPO and his son at Hanjin village of Kralgund in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district this evening.
The militants barged into the house of SPO, Mohammad Altaf Khan and fired indiscriminately. Altaf and his minor son Waqif Altaf were injured.
They have been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. Waqif, he said, has suffered head injury and his condition is stated to be critical.
Soon after the incident, a joint team of police, SOG, Army and CRPF arrived on the spot and launched searches to nab the assailants.
In the meantime, a former militant was killed by militants in Tral area of South Kashmir today.
Militants shot at former militant Rafiq Ahmad bhat alias Dada son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din of Abghar in Tral town. In the incident, Dada sustained serious bullet injury and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital where from he was shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment. However, doctors at SMHS declared him brought dead.
Authorities in Srinagar had imposed restrictions in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Safa Kadal, MR Gunj, Kralkhud, Maisuma and Rainawari Police Station areas of the city to foil protests which were called by separatists.
