CHANDIGARH, Oct 2: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said that the State Government is committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and assured the government will ensure they do not face any inconvenience during ongoing paddy procurement.
Every single grain of paddy brought by farmers to the grain markets will be procured, Saini said.
Government ministers, MLAs and he himself are inspecting the grain markets. Directions have also been issued to all Deputy Commissioners to closely monitor the procurement arrangements, he said.
In addition, a senior officer has been appointed as a nodal officer for each grain market, Saini, who made a surprise visit to the Ladwa Grain Market in Kurukshetra district on Friday evening to take stock of the paddy procurement arrangements, said later.
He checked the moisture content of the paddy crop that had arrived at the market and interacted with farmers and 'arhtiyas' (commission agents) to gather information about the procurement process.
The farmers and 'arhtiyas' requested the Chief Minister to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
He appealed to farmers to bring paddy crop to the market that meets the prescribed moisture standard of 17 per cent. (PTI)
