JAMMU, May 18: As a part of its ongoing nukkad series, Ek Sath Rang Mandal (ESRM) today staged its 517th play titled, “Nasha Ek Beemari Rokna Hoga” near Hari Singh Park.
The play highlighted the growing menace of drug addiction and its impact on society. It revolved around the character of a retired Subedar, Durga Prashad, who leads an anti-drug awareness mission.
Through his role, he educates children, parents and the community about the dangers of substance abuse, describing addiction as a chronic brain disease that compels individuals to use drugs despite harmful consequences.
The performance emphasized that repeated drug use alters brain function and leads to addiction, which is a relapsing condition. It also conveyed practical preventive measures, urging people to avoid places where drugs are easily available and to stay away from peers involved in substance use.
The play encouraged adopting healthy coping mechanisms such as engaging in physical activities, managing stress positively and staying involved in constructive pursuits like music and exercise.
Durga Prashad, through the narrative, appealed to society to work collectively towards building a “Nasha Mukt Samaj” (drug-free society), stressing the mental, physical, and social harm caused by drug abuse. The initiative focuses on awareness, rehabilitation, and preventive education to safeguard youth and empower communities.
The performance was well received by the audience, who appreciated its message and impact.
The cast included Shalley Singh, Romika, Rahul Dev, Neeraj and Vijay Malla.
