JAMMU, Apr 13: Chairing the 78th meeting of the University Council of the Jammu University at the Raj Bhavan today, Governor, N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the Jammu University, urged Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu to ensure quality education in the JU’s offsite campuses.
He directed the VC to take all necessary steps so that these Campuses could be made fully operational. Naeem Akhter, Education Minister, also advised the VC to ensure positioning of experienced faculty in these Campuses.
The Governor reviewed the functioning of RuTAG Chapter established at the Jammu University which is the first to have this Chapter outside the 7 IITs of India. The Governor urged the Vice- Chancellor for early start of identified projects including improvement in the Palki design used for pilgrims to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and Shri Amarnathji Yatra, development of a fuel efficient Bukhari and an improved Bio-gas plant etc.
While reviewing the ongoing and proposed research projects of the University, the Governor stressed introduction of applied research in both the Sciences and Humanities streams. Mr. Akhter urged the Council to undertake research which is useful to the society and deals with the local problems.
The Governor expressed satisfaction that the University Convocation has become an annual feature. He stressed on the VC to set up a mechanism for an internal Audit of the University being undertaken on a regular basis.
The Governor and the Education Minister underlined the vital importance of time bound declaration of results of Under Graduate and Post Graduate examinations and urged VCs of the Kashmir and Jammu University to further streamline processes for declaration of results, as far as practicable, within one month of the examinations process.
The Governor stressed the high importance of bringing out an exhaustive annual calendar of the academic and co-curricular activities. An annual review of all research activities, against pre-determined parameters, to critically assess the quality of research work being done in the University also needs to be undertaken.
While reviewing the pace of ongoing infrastructural projects in the university, the Governor urged the VC to give very high priority to construction of hostels for girl students. The Governor and the Minister also reviewed the to-date status of implementation of Choice Based Credit System at Post Graduate level, and the preparedness regarding introduction of Semester system at Under Graduate level and Skill Development Framework in the Jammu University.
The Council approved the implementation of new UGC Guidelines for Regional Centre for Capacity Building & Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) and UGC (Grievance Redressal) Regulations, 2012, and confirmed the amendments in the Internship Training roster in MBBS Course as per MCI norms.
Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, made a power point presentation and dwelt, interalia, on the status of various ongoing research and infrastructure related projects and those in the pipeline, achievements of the University in varied fields since the last meeting of the Council, introduction of various new courses, status of filling up teaching and non-teaching positions in the University etc.
