JAMMU, Apr 1: The Forest Department during anti-encroachment drive removed encroachment from forest land in Roop Nagar of Jammu city today.
Official sources said that Forest team led by Range Officer Varinder Singh, under the supervision of DFO Jammu, VS Senthil Kumar, with the assistance of Janipur Police successfully removed the RCC plinth laid on Forest land in Compartment No 3/P, Roop Nagar near Aap Shambu Temple by one Ranga, resident of Roop Nagar. During the operation about 40 feet RCC plinth, constructed by encroacher was demolished. About four kanal of Forest land worth lakhs of rupees was retrieved from the clutches of the encroacher.
In another incident, some miscreants had damaged the newly erected fence post in Keran area of Bhalwal during the intervening night of March 31 and Ist April 2016. They had damaged 85 poles of Forest Department and caused loss to the Government exchequer. The Range Officer concerned had sent a application to Station House Officer, Domana for registering of an FIR for damage to the public property and violation of Forest Act in this connection.
The team headed by DFO Jammu inspected the spot and gave instruction to the field staff to investigate the incident and also submit factual report. The DFO said that the Forest Department is taking measures to prevent encroachment on Forest land and the encroachers will not be spared at any cost.
