“SRO 202 is a gross injustice to employees who are facing the brunt of such policies while Government has framed these SRO’s blindly. It has been 5 years now and the Government is not providing us equal pay as per our counterparts who were just recruited few months before our appointments,” said Dr Shafeen Koul, one of the protesting employees.
Another protestor, Amandeep Singh said ‘Right to Equality’ which is the democratic right has been shattered deeply by J&K administration. He said they are being exploited by such things. “Employees who were recruited two months before us, are getting about Rs 20, 000 more than us, which is grave injustice with us as we were recruited through exams conducted by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and Jammu and Kashmir State Selection Board,” he added.
In Srinagar, shouting slogans and carrying placards in support of their demand, the agitating employees appealed the Lt Governor, G C Murmu, to look into the matter and do justice with them. They were carrying banner and placards which read: “revoke SRO 202 and “we want justice”.
As per the new recruitment rules, every new appointee shall be entitled to the minimum pay scale along with grade pay (7000-8000) applicable to the post against which he or she is appointed. However, he or she shall be entitled to annual increment and all allowances (HRA, DA, CCA) only after successful completion of his/her five years service on consolidated salary. “Denial of due increment will have a detrimental effect on our service and pension carries which will lead to pay anomaly in the future,” Muzaffar Ahmad , a protester said.
Another protester said that they are struggling to feed their families with the meager salaries. “After completing the education outside we came back to serve our people but the government is discouraging us with their policies,” he said.
He added: “As per the Government the new policy was introduced to tackle the cash crush, but the salaries of lawmakers were doubled last year. This is an irony!”
Some protesters pointed out that the harsh Government policies were the reason behind the brain drain. “It’s because of such policies people leave their native places and serve other countries,” Mudasir Bashir, a protester said.
