Educational institutions celebrate NSS Raising Day

JAMMU, Sept 24: Various educational institutions celebrated NSS Raising Day with enthusiasm and zeal.
NSS volunteers of Government MAM College celebrated NSS Raising Day. The contingent of 50 NSS volunteers under the supervision of Dr Mazammal Hussain and Dr SC Sharma, NSS Programme Officers visited Sure Chak Village of Phylan Mandal and distributed clothes, food and stationery items among flood victims.
On the occasion of NSS Foundation Day, a contingent of NSS volunteers of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar distributed relief materials among the flood victims in Malika Chak village of Phylain Mandal. The NSS volunteers were accompanied by NSS Programme Officers Prof Shrotika Rajput and Dr Ashaq Malik. Principal of the college Dr Kiran Bakshi flagged off the contingent carrying relief materials.
NSS Unit of GDC Bishnah celebrated NSS Foundation Day. On the occasion, MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma was the chief guest, whereas Prof Kalpana Kesar, Principal of the College, Prof Archana Bakshi, Dean Students Welfare, Dr Suman Charak, Programme Officer, NSS and Dr Rupinder Kour, convener, NSS were also present. A cultural programme was also organized, followed by symposium on “Role of NSS Volunteers in Disaster Management”. Anil Kumar, Asstt Prof of Sociology in School of Legal Studies at Central University of Kashmir delivered lecture on “Role of NSS in Disaster Management”. Pooja Devi of BA Part-III, Shalika of BA Part-I and Monika Kaith of BA Part-III secured first, second and third prizes respectively, whereas Sweety and Pallavi Mottan of BA Part-I were awarded with consolation prizes. The symposium was adjudged by Prof Archana Bakshi, Dr Raj Jamwal and Prof Preet Dogra.
NSS Unit of Government Degree College Kathua celebrated NSS Foundation Day. On the occasion, Dr BL Gupta was the chief guest and Dr Ram Murti Sharma was guest of honour. Prof PK Rao, Dr Tajinder Kour, Prof Anirudh Sharma, Prof Sumnesh, Programme Officer Dr Ram Singh, Prof Rachna, former NSS Programme Officer Prof Sumnesh and Dr Suraya Partap Singh were also present. A symposium on the topic “Role of Youth on Disaster Management” was also organized. The competition was judged by Dr RK Manhas, Dr Arun Dev Singh and Dr Deepshikha. Vishal Pathania, Atika Sharma and Sourav Sharma claimed first, second and third positions respectively. A cultural programme was also presented by the volunteers.
Government Degree College, Bani today celebrated the NSS Raising Day. Dr Naresh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college, delivered the inaugural address and exhorted the NSS volunteers to work whole-heartedly for the cause of national integration and development and fulfill the cherished dream of great leaders who launched the scheme of National Service through “self-help is the best help” motto. Prof Shambu Dutt, Programme Officer, was also present. NSS volunteers presented colourful cultural programme.
NSS Foundation Day was celebrated by the NSS unit of Government Degree College, Sunderbani. Principal Prof Kuldeep Raj Sharma in his address impressed upon the students to share the social responsibilities for sharpening their lives and increasing self confidence. Dr Deepali Khajuria, NSS programme Officer was also present. Various NSS volunteers spoke on NSS and performed cultural activities.
NSS Unit of Trikuta Degree College, Nardani-Raipur celebrated NSS Foundation Day. An awareness programme for the students and NSS volunteers was organized to understand the relevance of the activities conducted under NSS Department, University of Jammu. A programme on disaster management was also organized under the guidance of DySP Tajinder Kour, Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Paramjit Kumar, Deputy Warden and other office bearers. Dr RL Sharma, Chairman was the chief guest. Earlier, Principal Prof PK Koul presented the welcome address. Deepika Sharma, Programme Officer, NSS Unit was also present.
Meanwhile, NSS Day was celebrated with great fervour and gaiety in GDC Samba by the NSS volunteers and alongwith this celebration the success of ISRO in launching “Mangalyan” was also marked.
The function was presided over by the Principal of the College, Dr Romesh Chander.
The NSS Programme Officer Dr Sandhya Rani revived the patriotic zeal among all the teachers and students by dictating NSS pledge. The programme commenced with patriotic song by the NSS volunteers, followed by various colorful song and dance performances.
Social, environmental and constitutional problems were discussed by Dr Kuldeep Singh, HoD Botany.
In his address, Principal of the Institution Dr Romesh Chander emphasized the role of NSS to come forward on every front for overall strategic development of the nation and suggested all the students to follow the dictum of “charity begins at home” for the empowerment of NSS and the nation on the whole.
All the participants were honoured by the Principal and his advisory committee.
The programme was organized by NSS Programme Officer and Cultural Committee of the College.
The function culminated with vote of thanks extended by Prof Rashu Sharma (Deptt of English).
