JAMMU, Dec 18: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said the Government is serious in curbing the drug menace and necessary measures are being taken in this regard.
The Deputy Chief Minister was interacting with a deputation of “Team Jammu” led by its chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, who called on Dr Singh at his residence here.
The Deputy Chief Minister said it is high time for all the civil society members and groups to launch an all out campaign to curb the drug menace from the society. He said the younger generation has become victim of the menace and there is the need to educate the people about the measures to be taken to save the youth from this menacing scourge.
The chairman, Team Jammu, while interacting with Deputy Chief Minister said the team has launched a crusade against the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir and a series of awareness campaigns, including public rallies and mass contact programmes are being organized by their volunteers across the State. “Still a lot is required to be done as a collective responsibility of each one of us to save our future generations,” he said.
Jamwal urged the Deputy CM to ensure that a debate on the floor of the House, during forthcoming Budget Session of the J&K Legislative Assembly, is planned to discuss a comprehensive action plan against the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government would look into the suggestions put forth by the team for tackling this social evil effectively.
