JAMMU, Jan 14: Deputy Mayor of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Baldev Singh Billawaria here today started construction work of crate wall on bank of deep drain at Azad Nagar in Ward 73 which will be undertaken by Irrigation and Flood Control Department at an estimated cost of Rs. 12 lakh.
The crate wall, when completed, will prevent flooding in the area and will also help in improving environment.
He said that it was an old pending demand of the local there which has now been fulfilled and assured the locals that a project for construction of concrete boundary wall on bank of the deep drain would be prepared soon so that the people could get complete relief from the problem of flood.
Locals raised the demand for early construction of the broken bridge in Azad Nagar and apprised Billawaria that because of the broken bridge, the children of Government Middle School Azad Nagar along with the residents there suffer and have to travel 4 to 6 kilometers extra to reach destination.
The Dy Mayor assured to prepare the reports and send to the administration and very soon the construction work of the bridge may start.
He said that after discussing the encroachment of the deep drain with officers of Air Force Station, guidelines will be issued for proper cleaning of these drain.
