Dy CM for close monitoring of building permission violations

SRINAGAR, June 1: Asking for close monitoring of the commercial complexes, shopping malls coming up in and outside Srinagar city, the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand underlined need for strict implementing the building permissions being issued by Building Operation Control Authority (BOCA) and warned a stern action against the field staff to be found responsible for any deviation.
The Deputy Chief Minister was reviewing the progress of the initiatives taken for beautification of Srinagar city besides rationalizing traffic system at an officers meeting held here today.
Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Suresh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Samoon, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Baseer Ahmad, IGP, Kashmir, S.M.Sahai Vice Chairman, SDA, Farooq Renzushah, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Erfan Yasin, Commissioner, SMC, Dr. G.N.Qasba and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister asked officers to issue building permissions keeping in view the provisions of Srinagar City Master Plan and traffic management system. He said with installation of traffic signals the traffic system has been improved to a great extent in civil lines area, adding the need is to create more parking facilities to further smoothen the system.
Mr. Tara Chand said the traffic system cannot be streamlined unless sufficient parking facilities are made available, particularly in Srinagar city. In this regard, he asked concerned authorities to take necessary measures for creating more parking slots in the city.
The Deputy Chief Minister asked Commissioner, SMC to mobilize field functionaries and ensure that shopping malls or commercial complexes coming up will not violate the terms and conditions of building permissions granted to them. “It is the responsibility of field staff to get it stopped and intimate the higher authorities about the deviation”, said the Deputy Chief Minister, adding that divisional administration has been asked to provide necessary logistic support to SMC, LAWDA and SDA in checking illegal constructions in the city.
