JAMMU, Apr 27: In its annual feature, the Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) has planned to observe the annual feature ‘Save Water, Save Birds’ initiative on May 4 at 10 AM at the Sabha Bhawan, in collaboration with State Wild Life Department.
The initiative was launched seven years back by this 115 years old social and secular organization devoted to the cause of Dogra region. This act of public awakening and kindness towards the mute creatures has become very popular among the nature lovers and general population who see it as a service to the creations of God largely dependent on human help with rampant urbanizations and vanishing natural water bodies.
The event involves talks on nature preservation and care of flora-fauna. That is followed by distribution of earthen ‘hang-pots’ which may be hung on the trees and other places in homes, schools and offices and filled with water regularly. This act of kindness helps many thirsty tiny creatures in this season of summers when the mercury is rising.
Many prominent citizens along with luminaries from educational institutions, teaching fraternity, officers from the State Wild Life Department, philanthropists and students, besides large number of Sarpanches, Panches, Numberdars and Chowkidars are expected to join in the noble effort and humane cause. The DSS plans to distribute, thousands of earthen ‘hang pots’ among the participants.
Briefing on the event, former minister, Thakur Gulchain Singh said that besides saving the tiny lives of the birds, the event also acts as a reminder to the humanity to save water, which is getting scarce, precious and costlier day by day. He exhorted people from warm regions of Jammu to join in this noble act of kindness in large numbers and keep the ‘hang pots’ filled up and placed conveniently for the birds to quench their thirst in free from fear surroundings.
