JAMMU, Oct 13: In a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts, Gandhi Nagar under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ apprehended a narcotics supplier along with heroin, poppy straw and sharp edged weapons.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station led by SHO Gandhi Nagar DySP (Prob) Dr Sunniya Wani under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary laid a naka near Shastri Nagar chowk and signaled a Scorpio car bearing registration number JK02BK-2975 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and intercepted the car near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 13 grams heroin, 6 kilograms of poppy straw and 2 sharp edged weapons from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
The arrested person has been identified as Jagdev Singh alias Kala, son of late Amar Singh, a resident of Ward Number 1, Bhour Camp.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the arrested person is a notorious drug peddler and used to supply drugs especially heroin in the Jammu region among the youth to make them drug addicts.
Doing the business of property dealer and sale and purchase of cars, the accused used to sell the 10 grams of heroin for Rs 29000. With his arrest, police achieved a major success to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 181/17 under Section 8/15/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and further investigation of the case is going on.
