JAMMU, July 24: Sidhra police arrested a driver and his associate for smuggling bovine animals to Valley.
As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Sidhra police post laid a naka at TCP Nagrota and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK13C-1532 to stop.
On seeing police party, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but was chased by the police party and intercepted it near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police rescued 11 bovine animals from the vehicle, arrested driver and his associate.
The accused has been identified as driver Amir Ahmed Mir, son of Bashir Ahmed Mir of Banihal and his associate Shakeel Ahmed Chechi, son of Rashid Ahmed Chechi of Qazigund, Anantnag.
The accused were smuggling the bovines to Valley, but their designs were thwarted by Sidhra police.
A case under FIR Number 151/15 under Section 188 RPC and 3/5 PCA Act has been registered at police station Nagrota and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Sidhra police post SI Noor Ahmed made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Nagrota Inspector Dilip Singh, SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma and Incharge SSP Jammu Rajiv Pandey.
