Driver, associate arrested with 30 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, July 30: Manwal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a driver and his associate along with 30 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Manwal Police Post laid a naka and intercepted a Maruti car.
During checking, police recovered 30 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons traveling in the car.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Ghulam Mohammad and Aijaz Ganai, son of Bashir Ahmed, both residents of District Kulgam.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the accused persons had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling among the youth in Jammu area to make illegitimate profits.
A case under FIR Number 72/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Manwal Police Post SI Suresh Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Jhajjar Kotli Inspector Ajay Singh Chib, SDPO Nagrota Yashbir Singh, SP Rural Dushyant Sharma and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
