JAMMU, Nov 15: The midterm Thoracic Surgery Conference organized by Department of CTVS GMC Jammu under the aegis of Indian Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) got underway, here today.
The conference was inaugurated by Principal and Dean, Government Medical College Jammu who was the chief guest of the occasion, in presence of Dr Shiv K Nair, president of IACTS and Dr CS Hiremath (secretary of IACTS), other senior faculty from all over India.
In his welcome address, Dr Arvind Kohli, organizing secretary of the prestigious meet, gave details of the scientific sessions on varied topics related to Thoracic Surgery that will be held during the conference.
The conference generated a huge interest from post graduates residents and consultants as most experienced faculty from all across India shared the experience with delegates. In addition, there was hands-on training in advanced practices in thoracic surgery like Robotics, ECMO and EBUS where a large number of doctors got benefitted as most experienced faculty demonstrated the use of these sophisticated equipments.
The first session of the day was on ‘Benign & Infectious Lung Diseases’, second session was on ‘Tracheobronchial Tree’ while 3rd session was on ‘Vats & Robotic Surgery’. In the 4th session, a symposium on Lung Cancer was organized during which panelists discussed current therapies and personalized targeted treatments, innovative techniques for early detection and staging in lung cancer, surgical management of N2 NSCLC, etc.
The fifth session saw discussion on “Thymus, Mediastinum and the Chest Wall’ while in 6th (final) session, hands-on training on ECMO, Robot Surgery and EBUS was provided by Dr Sandeep Dewan, Dr Ali Zamir Khan and Dr Hari Kishen G, respectively.
On the occasion, lifetime achievement award was presented to Dr Gurjeet Singh for his distinguished services in field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr Sunanda, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the skill enhancement of the budding surgeons and thanked the visiting distinguished faculty for making the conference a success.
IACTS president Dr Shiv K Nair emphasized the importance of skill enhancement of the budding surgeons by holding these types of events and appreciated the effort of the organizing team and organizing secretary Dr Arvind Kohli.
Dr CS Hiremath, secretary of the Association also lauded the effort particularly the hands on robotic platform by senior distinguished faculty in the conference.
