JAMMU, Nov 3: Major (Dr) Samhita Bhushan, daughter of Dr Kulbushan Pandotra and Dr Anita Baru was one of the three doctors working in the field of Addiction Psychiatry, who were invited by International Society for Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP), to present their respective research work in the 1st Asian International Conference, organized recently by Department of Criminology, University of Hong Kong.
Her presentation on “Pattern of substance use among legal cannabis use (Bhang) in India” received early career scholarship award of 1000 pounds from the scientific committee. Her pioneer original work was highly appreciation by the scientific and doctors’ community present in the conference.
Major (Dr) Samhita has brought pride to state with her previous international presentations and awards. Her maiden presentation was at international conference organized by Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research, Department of Psychology and Behavior Sciences, AARHUS University, Denmark on May 18 to 20, 2017. Her research was recognized as an Asian scholar award of 2000 dollars.
The research in field of cannabis market was first original research to study the legal edible cannabis consumption of India. Jammu and Kashmir has abundant wild cultivation of cannabis which if regularized and monitored can not only generate tax revenue but also be helpful for research on medical cannabis for palliative care. Jammu & Kashmir is first State to take initiative for research of medical cannabis with help of CISR and Biohemp company at Chatha (RS Pura).
Dr Samhita has done her MBBS from ASCOMS Jammu and after her studies, served in Army Medical Corp. Presently, she continues to focus on her research work along with work as a consultant psychiatrist.
