JAMMU, Jan 27: Prof and Head, Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu, Dr Rekha Harish conducted a workshop on “Healthy Lifestyle” as a Pre Conference Workshop at National Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics Pedicon 2015 held at New Delhi.
She is first Pediatric faculty from J&K to get this rare honor to conduct such kind of workshop. Dr Rekha Harish was also invited to deliver a guest lecture on “Organic Foods and Junk Foods” in the same conference.
Dean and Principal of UCMS Medical College Delhi, an internationally renowned Nephrologist Dr OP Kalra was the chief guest. Dr Deepika Saraf National Program Coordinator NPCDCS Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was the guest of honour.
A total of 72 adolescent students, 15 parents, 10 teachers, 5 school administrators and 20 pediatricians from all over the country had registered for the workshop.
The faculty included Dr Swati Bhave Past President of IAP, Dr Anju Virmani Pediatric endocrinologist Max and SL Jain Hospital Delhi, Dr Paula Goel Consultant Pediatrician Fayth Clinic Mumbai, Dr Deepak Pande Prof Pediatrics Ahmedabad, Dr Anil Sud and Dr Rekha Harish.
The Workshop which served as an eye opener to majority had an overwhelming response was widely appreciated by one and all. There were instant multiple requests from all over the country to hold it in their respective cities. Such workshop is being planned for this State too.
This maiden workshop was the brain child of its convener Dr Rekha Harish who had conceptualized it, designed and executed it. It was also her Project as the National Convener of Indian Academy of Pediatrics Task Force for prevention of childhood obesity and lifestyle disorders for which she is working since 2012. She opines that the alarming rate of rise of childhood obesity is a ticking time bomb which if not defused timely shall be disastrous for sustenance of human life.
