Dr Manzoor elected KUTA president

SRINAGAR, Mar 18: Dr Manzoor Ahmad Chachoo has been elected as new President of the Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA). He is presently working as Scientist-D at the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Kashmir.
Elections to the new Executive Committee of KUTA were conducted yesterday, in which a total of 297 teachers working at the main and satellite campuses of the Kashmir University exercised their franchise. Results were declared today .
Dr Sajad Mohammad Khan of the Department of Computer Sciences was elected as the new Vice-President whereas Dr Javed Ahmad Dar of the Department of Political Sciences was elected unopposed for the post of General Secretary KUTA. Tariq Abdullah Khawar, working as Producer at EMMRC was elected as the new Joint Secretary-cum-Treasurer of the Association. Besides these new office bearers, ten candidates were elected as Executive Members.
Prof Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Department of Management Studies of the University delivered his duties as the Returning Officer alongwith his team of six election officers.
In view of Coronavirus outbreak and self-isolation advisory, an assembly of more than 20 persons at a time was not allowed during the elections, as a result of which process of voting and counting of votes was spread over two full days.
Newly elected Executive Members include; Dr Shazia Manzoor (Social Work), Dr Musavir Ahmad (Linguistics), Dr Kounsar Jan (Education), Dr Sami ullah Bhat (Environmental Science), Dr Waqar Amin (Social Work), Dr Mubashir Hussain Masoodi (Pharmaceutical Science), Prof Ghulam Jeelani (Earth Science), Dr Tasleem Ahmad War (English), Dr Javeed Ahmad Rather (Geography) and Dr Gulshan Ara Wani (Education).
