Doda migrants protest in support of demands

JAMMU, Mar 1: Demanding relief at par with displaced Kashmiri and registration of 251 families as migrant, members of erstwhile Doda Migrants Committee, Jammu, held a protest demonstration at Mubarak Mandi, here today.
Shouting slogans and carrying placards in support of their demands, the protesting Doda migrants tried to march towards the Civil Secretariat but police did not allow them for the same.
President of Erstwhile Doda Migrant Committee, Jammu, Rakesh Kumar Sharma and general secretary Som Nath led the protesters, who also comprised of women and children.
While addressing the protesters, Rakesh Sharma and Som Nath highlighted the grievances of Doda migrants who are allegedly being deprived of their genuine rights for their sustenance. They demanded that as per direction of the Supreme Court, Doda migrants be provided relief at par with the Kashmiri migrants.
They also criticized the Government for not registering 250 families, who had migrated from Doda and surrounding areas and whose antecedents also stand verified by the Relief Organisation. “These families are languishing in different parts of Jammu under miserable conditions but the Government is denying them any relief,” Som Nath said and demanded immediate registration of these families as migrants.
Others who addressed the protesters, included Swami Raj, Kanshi Ram and Mohd Abbass.
