SRINAGAR, Feb 26: Doctors in the Valley have threatened to held protests against the Government for granting extension to Dr Rafia Pampori as Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar.
President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar -ul- Hassan castigated the Government’s decision of granting extension to Dr Pampori after attaining superannuation.
He urged the Government to revoke the order of extension of Dr Pampori immediately, “otherwise we will be left with no option to protest against illegal and unruly order”.
Dr Pampori, who was heading GMC for two years, was granted one-year extension as Principal GMC with Government citing the reason of non-availability of eligible candidate for his re-employment.
Earlier, the Government was considering Dr Javed Chowdary, former Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital, for the post. But the proposed decision faced medicos’ ire in the Valley.
The DAK president called it unfortunate that GMC Srinagar after 60 years has failed to produce a Principal.
“If it goes like this many departments will be derecognized because of depleted faculty. The Government is keeping dead wood on key positions rather than encouraging fresh blood for rejuvenating administration,” he said.
