JAMMU, Feb 27: Minister of Defence, Nirmala Sitharaman is arriving here on March 1 to inaugurate the 331 mtr span Bein bridge in Hiranagar Sector.
The Defence Minister who will fly in the special Defence chopper directly to Hiranagar from Union Capital will be accompanied by Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is the MP of Kathua -Doda Lok Sabha constituency and other officers of her Ministry.
Both Ministers after inauguration of the bridge will leave for Union Capital in the afternoon on the same day. The authorities have made tight security arrangements in the area in view of the Union Ministers’ visit.
Informing this, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Minister’s programme for inauguration of Bein bridge is final in case the situation remains normal on borders.
The bridge constructed by BRO will link various areas of border in the Hiranagar Sector, with rest of the State, he added.
He said Kathua is set to achieve a unique distinction of getting as many as six new bridges, simultaneously, this year and Beni bridge is one among them. All of these bridges are nearly complete and ready to become functional in the coming months.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the landmark Rs.150 crore Keediyan-Gandiyal Bridge has already been inaugurated. The other five bridges, he said, have been constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and a briefing about the current status of these bridges was provided to him by BRO authorities.
The Minister said that 331 meter “Bein Bridge” on Parole-Korepannu-Rajpura section was ready but its inauguration has been delayed. He said the inauguration of Bein bridge will be followed by another important bridge, the 617 meter “Basantar Bridge” on Rajpura-Madwal-Pangduar section constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 38.69 crore, whose nearly 84% construction is complete and will be ready to become functional this year.
The 300 meter “Tarnah-II Bridge” on Chankatriyan-Kattal-Gujran-Londi-Bobiya section, constructed at a cost of over Rs 18 crore is also expected to be completed by this year, while the 160 meter Tarnah-I bridge will be completed soon as work is on progress on this bridge too..
The all important 1000 meter Ujh bridge on Parole-Korepannu-Rajpura section is over 78% complete and may become also functional soon, he said .
Another BRO bridge, namely the Bhini bridge already stands inaugurated by him.
The Minister said that the survey work on Chatargala tunnel has also been started by Beacon. The tunnel will be constructed by BRO .
