Setting up of 16 degree, 4 professional colleges in Valley

SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review identification of State land for construction of newly approved Government Degree Colleges, Professional and Administrative Colleges across the valley.
It was informed that 16 Degree Colleges were approved in the Kashmir Division which include Shalimar, Soura, Khomoh and Nowgam Byepass areas of Srinagar district where as Wakoora and Gund in Ganderbal, Waterhail in Budgaam, Achabal and Sirigufhra in Anantnag, Yaripora in Kulgam, Kakapora and Tral in Pulwama, Wachi in Shopian, Watergam and Wagoora in Baramulla and Mujgund areas in Bandipora districts were selected for the establishment of new degree institutions.
The meeting was further informed that four Professional Colleges (Technical, Vocational, Skill Development) were also approved for Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama and Kupwara districts. Administrative College (Staff Training College) was also established in the capital District of Srinagar.
All Deputy Commissioners informed the meeting regarding the identification of State land for newly approved educational institutions in their respective district.
The Divisional Commissioner directed Chief Engineers of R&B, PDD, I&FC, Revenue and Higher Education Department officers to conduct a joint survey for finalization of land and submit the report to the district administrations at an earliest so that Detailed Project Report will be prepared in a time bound manner.
He also asked DCs to ascertain the feasibility report for such areas where locals had demanded setting up a college and submit it to the Divisional Commissioner’s office within a week.
The meeting also discussed various measures and issues of higher education sector threadbare which include handing over of land for Boniyar, Soibugh, Chadoora and Aishmuqam Degree Colleges, additional land for NIT Srinagar, removal of encroachment at Eidgah Degree College and NIT Srinagar besides approach road, water & electricity supply to Engineering College Safapora, identification of land for off Campus for Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and dredging of canal at campus of CUK.
Khan exhorted concerned officers to speed up the pace of work and finish all pending works of higher education sector immediately so that the college students get hassle free facilities from the authority.
