JAMMU, July 27: Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma today reviewed the implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) -a campaign for water conservation here at a meeting of concerned officers and Deputy Commissioners of the province.
Jal Shakti Abhiyan a campaign for water conservation and water security was launched on July 1, 2019 across the country and will continue till November 30, 2019.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Piyush Singla, Conservator Forest Jammu, Samuel Changkia, DFO Jammu, Alok Kumar Maurya, Joint Director Horticulture, ADC Jammu, Kathua besides senior functionaries of Agriculture, Rural Development Department and other concerned, while other Deputy Commissioner of Jammu division along with concerned officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.
The Deputy Commissioners informed about the initiatives taken in their respective districts to spread awareness and carry out water conservation works as part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
DC Rajouri informed that as part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, District administration is developing 8000 liter capacity rain water harvesting tanks in each panchayat ward. He further informed that the administration has set a target of plantation of 5 lakh plants across the district.
DC Samba informed that a series of activities are being carried out in the district with regard to JSA through community participation including involvement of educational institutions. She said that school children are being involved in the campaign by holding Painting competitions, rallies and other activities.
Other Deputy Commissioners of the Division also informed about the activities being carried out under JSA.
The Div Com emphasized on the development of Ponds, wells, percolation pits, maintenance and renovation of traditional water bodies.
He also asked for carrying out massive plantation and particularly instructed the administration of hilly districts to plant trees along roads to arrest soil erosion and landslides and use innovative ideas for water conservation and water harvesting.
Later, the Div Com reviewed the progress on extension of Jammu Airport in a meeting with concerned officers.
The Div Com sought present status of works and directed the concerned officers for removing bottlenecks and expeditious works for timely completion.
