JAMMU, May 13: As part of its endeavour to keep surveillance on the flocks of sheep and goats during ongoing upward migration towards the highland pastures and that of the facilities being provided by the department by way of setting up of First Aid Camps etc. at various points of migratory routes, the Director Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu Dr. Sant Ram paid surprise visits to First Aid Camps and offices in Banihal and Ramban and held deliberations with migratory breeders at various places.
The Director inspected the offices of Sheep and Wool Development Officer Banihal, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Ramban besides First Aid camps and took stock of the working particularly that of the facilities being provided to the migratory sheep and goat flocks.
Enroute, the Director held interaction with 57 migratory breeders at various places and inspected their flocks. He also held interaction with the breeders of Mansar area at Nashri and inspected their flocks having strength of about 1000 sheep and goats. The Director advised the breeders to contact the nearest First Aid Camp in case of any emergency regarding their livestock. He further advised them to suspend the migration in case of inclement weather conditions and move ahead when the weather improves.
The Director issued on spot instructions to the concerned officers to instruct incharge veterinary doctor to conduct the mass dosing of sheep and goats when they reach the alpines in Vailoo (Anantnag). He further enjoined upon the officers and staff deployed at the First Aid Camps to remain vigilant for redressing of the problems of breeders regarding the treatment (first aid) of their livestock until the migration is over.
