UDHAMPUR, Sept 26: Earlier it was believed that Diabetes was confined primarily to urban areas but current statistics reveal that it is now rapidly spreading to villages as well as rural, semi-urban and hilly areas where it was hitherto a lesser known disease.
This was stated here today by renowned Diabetologist, National Professor of Diabetes & Chairman National Scientific Committee (RSSDI), Dr Jitendra Singh while speaking at a Diabetes awareness programme-cum-detection camp held at village Hartaryan located adjacent to villages Sunari, Patta and Jib in district Udhampur.
The programme was held under the aegis of Government of India’s National Programme for Control of Diabetes and Non-Communicable Diseases in collaboration with Diabetes Care Foundation (DCF) a registered NGO.
Free medical consultation was provided by a team of specialists led by Dr Jitendra Singh. Free medicine was also distributed. Also present on the occasion were Dr Bhavana, Dr Vijay Basnotra B.M.O. Tikri, Dr Janak, Dr Amarjit Kour, Prog Director Ronica, DCF activist Varun Malhotra and prominent local activist Vir Chander Sharma.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that during the first eight months of current year, the DCF has already successfully organized a series of similar camps in the peripheral areas of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kathua and Hiranagar. This is a part of the DCF campaign to reach out to people in remote areas who are usually deprived of easy access to health care facilities, he added.
