SRINAGAR, Jan 18: As the casualties in road accidents surge in the State, Directorate of Health Service Kashmir (DHSK) has started Basic Level Support (BLS) training programme to provide people who can provide basic life support to the victims on the spot.
In the first programme, DHSK started with journalists to train them in Basic Level Support (BLS), a level of medical care which can be used for victims of life threatening- illness or injuries till they are given full medical care at hospital.
Since the journalists are among the few people who reach at the incident site immediately and can save the precious lives by applying some tips to the victims till they are shifted to hospital, the trainers thought to began with them.
The initiative has been taken after the Central Home Ministry sponsored and realized that National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has found that Jammu and Kashmir tops the list of states in terms of chances of a road accident going fatal.
“We have trained more than 10, 000 people and most of our staff from last two years and its impact was seen in recent floods in which minimum casualties were witnessed because of effective work by people at ground level,” the BLS trainers said.
They said at global level India has the world’s deadliest roads, with more than one lakh people killed every year. “If patients are helped on the spot, it can reduce the loss of lives,” they said.
