DDMA trains 6000 service-providers for COVID precautions

SRINAGAR, June 20: The District Disaster Management Authority has trained more than 6000 service providers for precautions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aimed at COVID containment.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary launched the training programme for more than 2,000 drivers of Three-Wheelers (Rikshaw) with first batch of nearly 300 trained on day one. Additional DCs Syed Hanief Balkhi, Syed Sajjad Qadri, Fayaz Parra and officers from police, traffic, legal metrology were present, apart from technical resource persons from Department of Social and Preventive Medicine.
The DDMA has trained more than 6000 service providers for sector specific protocols during last one month and provided certificates for attending training. Mandatory testing of more than 3000 key service delivery staff was also conducted on sidelines of such training sessions.
The fruit and vegetable vendors were covered in first phase of training followed by more than 500 workers drawn from various bakeries across the city, shortly before Eid. Technical training was also organised for Wazas – engaged with cooking and serving of traditional Kashmiri cuisine – Wazwaan. Training sessions were later organised for shopkeepers dealing with essential services, personnel from service sector, key staff of offices, and public transport operators over last few weeks. Restaurant staff from hundreds of outlets in city was also trained by DDMA.
Meanwhile, in addition to service providers more than 3000 religious clerics, heads of religious institutions and members of NGOs were also engaged in spreading the message about precautionary measures to be adopted in public, and imparted training for the purpose .
DC Srinagar, speaking on the occasions, complemented the sectoral organisations especially business community for showing keen interest and active participation of thousands of service providers in specially designed trainings. He also hailed the efforts of officials involved in planning and organising such a mammoth training initiative. He emphasised on adherence to Standard Operating Procedures devised for various sectors and underlined the importance of making everyone aware of these SOPs. He appealed the public for mandatory use of mask, observing physical distancing and personal hygiene.
In the training session organised for three-wheeler operators the technical resource persons trained the operators for various precautions to be adopted while plying on roads, including cleanliness of vehicles, handling customers, mandatory precautions and various exigency situations. A team of health department also conducted COVID test of the participant operators. Govt Medical College and Srinagar Smart City also extended resource support for the initiative. The training sessions will continue for various sectors.
