PIL highlighting shortage of doctors,a paramedics

JAMMU, Sept 1: In a significant order, a Division Bench of High Court of J&K and Ladakh comprising Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice M A Chowdhary has directed Commissioner/Secretary to Government of J&K, Health and Medical Education Department to personally file an affidavit without fail within three weeks about the steps taken to deal with the deficiency of Medical Officers as well as the para medical staff/non-gazetted and Class IV employees in Jammu Division.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina, Supriya Chouhan and Mohd Zulkarnain Chowdhary for the PIL, the DB made it clear that court will be constrained to pass appropriate orders, in the event, respondent does not file the affidavit within the stipulated period.
About the Union Territory of Ladakh, Division Bench also directed the Commissioner/ Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, Ladakh to personally file an affidavit without fail indicating steps taken to deal with shortage of Medical Officers (Doctors) as well as non-medical (Para Medical Staff) and other supporting staff in the district of Ladakh.
These significant directions were issued in a Public Interest Litigation filed by RTI activist Balwinder Singh highlighting acute shortage of Medical Officers and Paramedical Staff in various Health Institutions of J&K particularly in remote areas of Jammu Province.
