JAMMU, Jan 11: Senior INTUC leader and president Water Works (PHE) Employees Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma has alleged that daily rated workers of the PHE Department were without wages for the last 24 to 30 months.
Addressing a press conference here today, the INTUC leader strongly condemned the attitude of higher authorities for denying wages to the workers who are performing their duty. He alleged that despite repeated reminders to the senior officers and even the former PHE minister, nothing has been done in this regard.
Mr Sharma alleged that PHE Department has been left to penury and lead life of destitution as the Government has not released their pending wages for the last 24 to 30 months. These hapless workers are facing immense financial problems. Even these workers were assured by the former PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma during Udhampur INTUC rally in the recent past to settle their issues but nothing happened.
He alleged that despite assurances, the concerned authorities have failed to resolve the other demands of the PHE employees which included enhancement of wages as Rs 350 per day, clearance of 17 % two DA installments, maintaining seniority list, regularization of daily wagers who have completed 5 years in service, conduct of DPC, creation of posts and change of designation besides fixation of norms of wages.
Mr Sharma said that a memorandum has also been submitted to the State Governor N N Vohra in this regard. Senior INTUC leader Som Nath from Udhampur, Vinod Kumar, Ajay Sharma, Raman Kumar and others were also present.
