JAMMU, Aug 9: Wrestling Association of J&K gave rousing welcome to son of soil, Sahil Sharma on his return to Jammu from Birmingham. Sahil Sharma was the coach of Indian Women Wrestling Team of Commonwealth Games-2022 at Birmingham.
Sahil Sharma was welcomed from Jammu Airport by the members of the Associations, prominent persons of different Sports Association, followed by a main event was held at Bajrangi Akhara Jammu where large number of prominent wrestlers, upcoming wrestlers, and members from Shalamar Associations greeted the Sahil Sharma for his achievement in the Commonwealth Games as coach.
Pardeep Sharma, father of Sahil Sharma (Son of Soil) got emotional after receiving Sahil from Airport.
Speaking on the occasion, Dushyant Sharma, former international wrestler and first Gold medal winner of National Games for J&K in Pune said that Sahil Sharma is the alumni of Bajrangi Akhara and maximum wrestlers of J&K are from Bajrangi Akhara as this Akhara is one of the oldest Akhara in the city.
“A large number of wrestlers are doing practice there on a daily basis and bringing laurels for J&K,” said Dushyant Sharma and gave his best wishes to Sahil Sharma, coach of Indian Women Wrestling Team who is from J&K UT for their upcoming assignments.
Former MLC and BJP leader Ashok Khajuria and Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma were also present on the occasion and gave their best wishes to Sahil Sharma for his achievements in Birmingham.
It is pertinent to mention here that six women wrestlers of India participated in the Commonwealth Games and all the women wrestlers won medals in Birmingham including Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat who won Gold medals.
It’s a proud moment for J&K that one of the wrestling coaches of J&K, Sahil Sharma representing India in the Commonwealth Games is coach of the Indian women wrestling team.
Raju Sharma, vice-president, Jai Bharat general secretary, Om Parkash treasurer of the Association and others were present on the occasion.
