It is about two weeks that CT scan machine in Chest Disease Hospital in Jammu has become dysfunctional. Patients are forced to approach the private clinics for X-rays which costs almost double the cost in the CD Hospital viz. 900 to 1500 rupees. CD Hospital authorities say that only the UPS of the machine is dysfunctional and they had written to the company which declines to repair it saying they have outstanding money with the Hospital and that has to be cleared first. The mess created by financial irregularities and non clearance of arrears is a malaise with our hospitals, The Health Department should intervene immediately and settle the arrears issue if it is there and get the machine functional. Why should the patients become the victims of financial irregularities either because of the department or the contractor with which the patients have nothing to do. We hope that Director of Health Services will focus on this issue without the loss of single day.
