SRINAGAR, Mar 16: The CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) Jammu today conducted a planting material distribution program as part of the CSIR Floriculture Mission in the Doda and Bhaderwah districts of Jammu.
The program provided 415 farmer beneficiaries with quality germplasm of Lilium, Gladiolus, and Marigold, and included an awareness campaign on scientific cultivation, crop management, and post-harvest handling of floricultural crops.
Vishesh Paul Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner of Doda, was present at the distribution program and praised CSIR-IIIM for its outreach through its activities in the mission. He acknowledged the opportunities in the floriculture sector, particularly in the production of cut flower cultivars, and urged officials of the Department of Agriculture and Floriculture to work with CSIR-IIIM for the success of the mission.
Dr. Shahid Rasool, Nodal Scientist of CSIR Floriculture Mission, briefed the participants on the mission and its verticals, including the development of new floral varieties, expansion of areas under region-specific floricultural crops, integration of apiculture-floriculture, and capacity building for optimal production of crops and value-added products.
The program also addressed the marketing challenges faced by flower growers in the region.
