JAMMU, Nov 3: Authorities of Poonch and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) today met at Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district and decided to resume cross-LoC travel and trade, which has been stalled for past about four months, from November 6.
Trade Custodian Tanveer Ahmad, who was also present at the meeting, told the Excelsior that the meeting was held in cordial atmosphere and the two sides decided to resume stalled cross-LoC travel and trade from Monday, if everything goes well.
Authorities from two sides of the divided State were of the view that situation was conducive now for resumption of the trade. While cross-LoC bus will resume on Monday, the trade, as usual, will take place from Tuesday to Friday.
Apart from Tanveer Ahmad, Trade Facilitation Officer (TFO), Prithpal Singh and DySP Chakan-Da-Bagh, Tufail Mir were present at the meeting from this side while PoK was represented by Director Trade Facilitation, Rawlakote, Syed Ahmad and TFO PoK Naeem Khan.
Cross-LoC travel and trade on Poonch-Rawlakote was suspended on July 10 in view of heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan army on the LoC in Poonch district including areas falling close to Chakan-Da-Bagh from where cross-LoC bus and trucks cross over to Rawlakote from Poonch.
Meanwhile, Traders of Poonch-Rawlakote Association has hailed the Government decision to resume trade on Poonch-Rawlakote route.
